“The authors hypothesize that employment has contracted in highly unionized areas and expanded in sectors with low union participation.” OR, much more likely, “9.1%” unemployment is a lie and employment has contracted in all areas similarly. Also interesting is that the administration has declared unemployment will stay at 9%. Reading between the lines, 9% will be reported regardless of how bad the economy is.
“but during the period studied, the heavily unionized construction industry has been decimated and the Old London factory that produced Melba toast took its 228 jobs to North Carolina.” You mean liberalized states like new york can’t compete with conservative states? Shocking. How is it they managed in our past good economy then? Massive federal robin hood programs. Take from the smart and successful states/businesses/people and give to the inefficient, ineffective, and unmotivated. The only way to fix their lack of motivation and efficiency is to cut them off.
