Romney wins voters who were most concerned with beating Obama, and still wrong.

Some people apparently refuse to think. Picking Obama-lite isn’t going to magically turn moderate democrats (as if there were such a thing) into republican voters. What it will do is alienate the conservative half of the party, split the vote, and guarantee another McCain-esque loss. Picking a solid conservative with a consistent history is how you rally the republicans and conservatives (as they lately appear to be two different groups) and win over undecided independents. People are tired of politicians; they want a principled statesman to vote for.
This is the same reason the liberal media is shouting as loudly as possible that Romney won Iowa. For all practical purposes Santorum and Romney tied. 8 votes in 60,000 is well within the margin of error. Voter fraud was much higher than that. But the liberal media knows Romney will divide the party and lose to Obama, so they will continue to campaign for Romney until he’s nominated, then switch back to Obama.
